I love music from the 20's - the 90's. My folks loved a diverse range of styles, and it stuck. As I write this, I'm listening to Etta James' "Trust in Me." Check out the Lyrics of this song: Come to me without more speculation Have no fear, give me your hand, my dear
Trust in me in all you do Have the faith I have in you Love will see us through
If only you trust in me
Come to me when things go wrong Cling to me and I'll be strong We can get along
As long as you trust in me
While there's a moon on high While there's a bird to fly While there's a you and I You can be sure I love you
Stand beside me all the while Face the future with a smile
Trust in me and I'll be worthy of you©
What a love song...but as I heard it, I wondered, isn't God saying the same thing to us? 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. (Psalm 37) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment[c] to your bones. (Proverbs 3) I could go on, but I hope you see the idea. The Lord wants our complete trust, surrender to, and dependence on Him. When the Bible says "do not lean on your own understanding," I think God knows what is in the hearts of Men. In the Gospel of John, Chapter 2, it says " 23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. 24 But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people 25 and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man." Our hearts are wicked. They can't be trusted (Jeremiah), and we like sheep have gone astray, everyone to his own way (Isaiah). That is why we need the shepherd! Giver your heart completely to the Lord. Give your life completely over to God! Watch how He enriches your life. Our strength will fail, money is like sand in a sieve, and people are just as human as we are, but the Lord and His great love never fails! What will it look like if you place yourself completely in His hands? Proverbs 3 English Standard Version (ESV)
Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
3 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, 2 for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good success[a] in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. 7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh[b] and refreshment[c] to your bones.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
11 My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.
